The World Of Jadeey: February 2008

Sad day

Friday, February 29, 2008
My stupid laptop appears to be broken. I dropped it the other day and it hasn't been the same since. Looks like I'll be buying a new laptop on Sunday.

I worked today. It was cool because we went out to Paraparaumu, which meant 2 hours in total of travel time. There was also an hour, total, of cashing out and back in so only 2 and a half hours of actual selling. Sweet.

Okay, I'm writing this on paper due to my silly broken laptop so I'm not going to write a lot.

That's it.

Annoying!

Thursday, February 28, 2008
I work in a job where I get a txt message when there is work and I have to reply and say whether or not I want it. I got one of those txt messages earlier in the week about work tomorrow. I said I could work 2.30pm-7pm. I haven't heard back... That in itself isn't so unusual, I don't usually hear until the day before. But, it is now the day before and there is no confirmation email in my inbox.

Basically, this means I now have to call tomorrow morning and find out what's going on. Very annoying since it means I won't know until 12pm whether or not I'm working. I hate not knowing these things in advance!

Okay, off to dinner now.

Buses

Wednesday, February 27, 2008
Today, on the bus, the guy sitting in front of me had the tag of his t-shirt out. It really annoyed me! I so badly wanted to tuck it back in for him but thought that might make me look strange. I'm not sure I'd react well to a random stranger tucking the tag of my shirt back in, so I'm guessing other people might not either.

In other bus-related stories, the bus last night was really packed so a lot of people had to sit with strangers. A girl sat down directly in front of me, next to a guy. They struck up a conversation and chatted the whole way home. Right before she got off the bus he got her phone number. It was cute!!!

I'm very sick of catching the bus already, and it's only the second week of classes. I enjoy it in some ways because I can just listen to music and read my book, but it does get boring sometimes when the ride takes forever. I'm really not looking forward to rainy days waiting at the damn (uncovered) bus-stop either.

What a wonderful world

Tuesday, February 26, 2008
I love this country. So much.

Tonight me, Kat and Ingrid went and ate our dinner on the Petone Esplanade while the sun was setting. It was amazing, beautiful and really reminded me that I'm a very lucky person to live in such and amazing place.

I do think that, at some stage, I would like to go overseas and make some real money. But, this is the country I'll always come back to when it's time to raise a family and live for good. I could never stay away forever. Not when this is, absolutely, the best country in the world. Payrates might be crap; internet might be slow; stuff might be expensive; but, in the end, there is nowhere else in the world quite as amazing as New Zealand.

Completely impatient

Monday, February 25, 2008
I often get accused of being nice, sometimes even too nice. I've realised though, that I'm not too nice at all. In fact, I have virtually no patience at all and surely that disqualifies me from the category of nice?

I can't stand trying to explain things to people who don't understand what I'm talking about. I feel mean about it and I try very hard not to let my discontent show but I really get driven nuts. For instance, I've been trying to teach my nana how to use her cellphone. I've written the instructions out 3 times and shown her as well but she just doesn't get it. I know that she's old and it's difficult and I wish I was patient enough to not mind showing her but I'm not. I'm mean and impatient. (By the way, I'm just teaching her how to turn the phone on and dial numbers.)

I'm currently watching Black Books. It's bloody funny. I had seen it in the shop before but didn't know what it was. I love it though, I'm definitely addicted already.

Finished

Sunday, February 24, 2008
My nana's birthday celebrations are over. Everyone is on their way back home and it's just us Wellingtonians left. It sucks really because we only all get together every couple of years but I wish I saw them all more often than that.

Next family event (I hope, since anything sooner would mean a tragedy in the family) is Phuket in 2010. I can't wait! I've never been to Thailand so we're going to do a bit of travelling around afterwards as well.

Anyway, also exciting is that Kat and Shera are going to be here in a couple of hours. Yay!!! I can't wait to see them.

Okay, I'm out. Was just quickly blogging so I don't have to do it later.

Drunkness

Saturday, February 23, 2008
Yesterday was my nana's 80th birthday. As I've said before, we have a whole weekend of activities planned and family have come from around the country and overseas to celebrate. Last night was her actual birthday and the partying went well into the night.

The cousin staying with me got particularly drunk. In fact, we have to be at lunch in an hour and a half and I have no idea how I'm going to wake her. She's dead to the world. Last night I woke up at 3am to find her hovering over my bed. When I asked her what was wrong she said nothing she just needed to go to the bathroom. She was standing next to the full-length mirror that is currently leaning against the wall by my bed. She proceeded to grab the side of the mirror and start pulling at it. I caught the mirror before it fell and asked her what she was doing again. She said the bathroom so I pointed her in the right direction. I realised later that she could probably see the reflection of the door in the mirror and, in her drunken haze, thought she was opening it. I'm a little bit scared because she didn't use the toilet, but I haven't been able to find a puddle of mess anywhere else so I think I'm safe!!

Ah drunk people. They are funny.

Weirdness

Friday, February 22, 2008
The Pentagon today reported that they have successfully shot down an innactive spy satellite. That information, in itself, is not that interesting to me. What is interesting is that there is a small piece of the satellite left. The Pentagon has reported that the piece left is perfectly safe as it is small, only the size of a rugby ball, in fact.

A rugby ball?????? Why on earth did the Pentagon, AMERICAN'S, describe it as a rugby ball size. They don't play rugby! Do they even know what size a rugby ball is? Would normal American citizen's know what size a rugby ball is without having to think about it? It just seems like a very odd choice of comparison to me. A football would have made more sense, if you ask me. Perhaps they were worried British (and other soccer playing nations, who actually call soccer football) would have been confused by that.

Okay, time for me to get ready for class.

And yet more family

Thursday, February 21, 2008
The rest of the family arrived in Wellington today and so we had a BBQ at my uncle's house. It was awesome to see everyone.

I also got my ears fixed tonight. Thank God I can hear again! It feels AMAZING!!!!

Tomorrow we are off to lunch at a cafe near where we had a boatshed when I was a kid. Many a summer was spent at the boatshed (even though we didn't have a boat). It was the best and it's going to be great to be out there again.

Okay, I'm going to bed. I've got to get up in a few hours for class.

Darn it!

Wednesday, February 20, 2008
As I was walking home today I came up with something I wanted to blog about. Now I have clean forgotten! Darn it!

The cricket today was AWESOME. We didn't win, we tied, but England scored 340 runs and we also scored 340 runs so you can see how that would be an exciting game!

My favourite cousin arrives tomorrow from Hamilton. I'm very excited, growing up we were more like sister's than cousins. Unfortunately she moved away when we were teenagers and we hardly ever get to see each other. THEN, on Sunday, Kat and Shera are coming down from Auckland to visit. YAY!!!!!

Apparently a South Korean man was arrested yesterday for cooking his landlady's chihuahua! Her chihuahua! I mean, sure they are ugly dogs but that's still very disturbing. He had lost his job and couldn't afford food so was very hungry. He, for some reason, decided that cooking and eating the dog would be a good idea. I'm betting he is now homeless as well as jobless!

Woah

Tuesday, February 19, 2008
Almost forgot to blog! I only turned on my computer to check my email one last time before I went to bed. (Seriously, checking email is a compulsion for me! I'm not even expecting anything yet I like to check it right before I go to bed.) Thankfully, turning on my computer reminded me that I hadn't blogged...

We have run out of DVD shelves in our flat. Deciding it was time to rectify this problem I toddled off down to The Warehouse this evening. Unfortunately they have sold out of the shelves we use. I'll have to go check out a different Warehouse store tomorrow. Luckily I don't think they are going to stop stocking the shelves so more will be in stock soon I'm sure. Until then though we have about 50 DVDs sitting on the floor without a home. Messy!

These early morning starts are already killing me and it's only the second day. I honestly don't remember the last time I had to regularly get up at 6.30am. Probably back at high school actually. With uni I often had late starts, or didn't bother going to the early classes. With work, I've always lived close enough that getting up between 7.30am and 8am gets me there on time. So, yeah, it's a big shock to the system to have to get up at 6.30am every day. Heh, welcome to the real world right? :P

Family

Monday, February 18, 2008
My family have arrived!

This weekend is my Nana's 80th birthday so family are arriving from far and wide (Perth, Dunedin and Hamilton anyway) to celebrate. The Perth people arrived today. I'm extremely happy to see them but there is a problem...

I started my course today. It is FANTASTIC. I think I'm going to love, love, LOVE it. It's also very full on. I have heaps of homework and we have a test (though not a properly marked one) tomorrow. So, I need to study. With family here this is proving to be very difficult. I never get to see them so I want to spend time with them while they are here but I also really want to start the course as I mean to continue, and that means putting in the hours. I'm behind already since it's 9pm and I'm tired but I'm nowhere near finished my homework. I think I'm going to start badly and go to bed then do my homework on the bus in the morning. I know, I know. Terrible.

Damn ear!

Sunday, February 17, 2008
I have a blocked ear. Apparently it is from using my iPod ear buds for too many hours a day. (Some thing about old wax falls out of your ear but if you have an ear bud in it can't. Since I've been unemployed I've probably been listening to my iPod 3-4 hours a day as I walk - hence no ear wax falling out of my ear. Which, by the way, sounds disgusting.) Anyway, the doctor can't syringe it like he normally would because it's too solid so I have to pour warm olive oil into my ear twice a day for 3-4 days then go back and get them syringed. I paid $75 today for that advice and will probably have to pay another $75 when I go and actually get them syringed. Bloody ears!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed though - last time this happened to me I woke up one morning feeling like I was on a boat with very high waves. I promptly got seasick (funny since I don't get seasick on actual boats) and vomited. I'm hoping this doesn't happen this time around since I have the first proper day of classes tomorrow. It won't be good if I'm vomiting everywhere!

Anyway, I'm off to cook some dinner and watch some tv before it's bedtime. See you all later!

Damn Blogging

Saturday, February 16, 2008
It's days like these that I dislike the daily blogging challenge. Not because I can't be bothered blogging but because I didn't do it early enough in the day and I'm now running out of time. It's Ingrid's mum's birthday party today so I'm off to that in a few minutes. This means I don't have enough time for a proper, interesting blog. Admittedly, sometimes I'm far too lazy to bother writing anything more than just a boring old summary of what I've done for the day, but it annoys me more when I can't write something interesting due to a lack of time.

Blogs like this one, where I just talk about not having enough time to blog, feel like cheating. By the official rules I set for myself they're not. But they feel like they are.

Ah well. I'll just quickly hit Kat's blog to list a couple of punishment ideas I had then I better finish getting ready.

Not a lot to say

Friday, February 15, 2008
I had a pretty good day today. Despite the fact that the weather here at the beach is usually perfect, the weather today has been pretty awful.

We've spent the day inside watching dvds and playing video games. It's been fun though, very relaxing. Wow, due to the lack of stuff done I really don't have a lot to talk about.

Gotta get up early in the morning to head back to Wellington. Then tomorrow night it's Ingrid's mum's birthday party. Sunday is all about preparation for Monday and the beginning of my course. Gah! Looks like my holiday is over for good. :-(

Gutted

Thursday, February 14, 2008

Stephen Fleming fully retired from New Zealand cricket today. His last game will be the final test match against England in Napier. Unfortunately, I can't be at that but I will most definitely be at his last Basin Reserve game.

If I thought I was gutted when he retired from the captaincy and from the one day game (which I did), it's nothing on what I feel now. For the majority of my cricket-loving life, certainly every game that I can remember, Stephen Fleming has been there.

I will never love another cricket player as much as I loved, and still love, him. Not in some weird creepy way. I got over my actual crush on him a long time ago. I love him as a player and a captain.

He is far from the most consistent player in the world, there's been drug scandals, problems with the media, and a horrible conversion rate of 50s. Yet, even while watching him was often disappointing because he often got out far too soon to a stupid shot, there was something magical about him for me. To me he was what cricket was all about. When he is in form his batting is a thing of beauty. To any non-cricket fans out there, I know that sounds crazy, but it's true.

Ah well, I could wax lyrical all night about how much I love him, but I won't. Everyone already knows that anyway, I don't need to go repeating myself a million times.

I'll miss you Stephen, cricket won't be the same without you.

It's over!

Wednesday, February 13, 2008
You get 5 posts in one day for one reason and one reason only...

Because.....

THE WRITERS STRIKE IS OVER!!!!!!

I am so incredibly happy about this I don't even have the words to express it. Fantastic news. Just fantastic.

Four posts in one day!

I need your help. As most of you know, I blog everyday. If I forget I have to take a punishment. The punishment can be pretty much anything. I'm doing this with Kat, who actually started the whole idea.

The last punishment was eating a blenderised Happy Meal. Kat had to do this (thank god I didn't, it was disgusting!) The next punishment is having to watch all 3 (extended edition) LOTR films with only a 5 minute gap between them. You cannot do anything else while you are watching (except eat).

Anyway, Kat started an additional competition for herself a few weeks ago in which she had to give a reason everyday why the day was awesome. She forgot and now has to face a punishment of her reader's choosing. I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to suggest so you guys should make some suggestions too.

Either go to her blog and make suggestions there or make them to me and I'll pass them on. The only suggestion currently is for her to put her foot in a lagoon FULL of eels. (and I do mean full, I have never seen so many eels in my life.)

Pimping out some blogs

You guys should all check out this blog. It's hilarious. The owner is the wife of a friend of mine. She's a stand-up comic so you know going in that it's going to be good. (heh that's what she said :P )

Since I'm apparently pimping out friends' blogs right now...

You should also check out Kat's blog. She's the one who started the whole 'blog-a-day' thing and she tends to be a lot more interesting than me.

My friend Daniel has a blog that can always be relied on to be deep and meaningful which, i've gotta say, is a nice change after the drivel my own blog offers.

Finally, if you are looking for music then check out Sam's blog. He's been pretty slack (hint, hint) at updating this year, but when he does it's always worth it.

And, all of these links are also on the side-bar below. Go, check them out! But make sure you always return here as well!!! :-)

Boobs!

I read this headline this morning:

Swedish teacher fined for flashing her boobs at pupil

Of course, after a headline like that I had to read the article. It was short and sweet (but not actually sweet):

The 47-year-old was convicted of sexual harassment but argues she only exposed herself in retaliation to the boy drawing crude pictures on the classroom blackboard.

My question is this.... WHY?!?! When would you EVER think that, especially as a teacher, flashing a boob is an appropriate punishment for crude drawings. Hell, if anything, that seems more like encouragement. "Oh you want to draw pictures of people having sex? Well why don't you take a look at my breast then?"

I would have thought appropriate punishments would be detention or writing lines. You know, something that is normally a punishment at school. There was no picture accompanying the article though so perhaps her breasts were particularly ugly. As a 47 year old it's possible they were a bit saggy or wrinkly but it's also totally possible they were still in good condition. Either way, to a horny young boy any boobs are probably better than no boobs. I bet the only lesson he learnt is that the way into a woman's underwear is to draw pictures of what you'd like to do to her.

Adam Parore vs Jesse Ryder

Last week Adam Parore wrote in the New Zealand Herald that Jesse Ryder was too fat to play cricket at a professional level. Apparently his lack of fitness sends a bad message to other players, the message that fitness standards are only applicable to some players.

Parore also stated, bizarrely, that if he still played international cricket he wouldn't want to be in the same dressing room as Jesse Ryder. Do fat people disgust him so much that he can't even be in the same room as them? Did he used to get his kicks out of checking out the other guys' well-toned bodies and the thought of accidentally checking out a flabby body is disturbing to him? (If that's the case I feel sorry for Sally Ridge since he is, quite clearly, in the closet.)

Actually, I might be onto something there. Later in the article he suggested that Tim Southee was a brilliant selection and totally looked the part of a cricketer. In Parore's own words "he's 19, tall, swings the ball at a good clip and I'm told is a level headed young man with a big future." Hmmm he's 19 and tall aye? I'm surprised Parore didn't add 'handsome' to the list of reasons he feels it's a good selection. So you'd be more than happy to be in the dressing room with Southee would you Adam?

Anyway, I'd agree that Jesse Ryder is bigger than your average cricketer, but I haven't seen him have the slightest bit of trouble keeping up with any of the other guys. His running between the wickets is quick (admittedly, in last nights caning they didn't need to do much running since there were so many boundaries, but that works too) and his fielding is good. He certainly doesn't seem to be a liability out there. Perhaps Parore hadn't actually seen him play when he made those comments?

Parore really does seem to be obsessed with the dressing room. He finishes his comments with this: "Ryder and Southee appear polar opposites but they will share the dressing room at Eden Park on Tuesday night. Strange times indeed." You're right Parore, strange times, but it's actually your comments that are strange.

I'm so ashamed of myself

Tuesday, February 12, 2008
I'm not normally conceited or up-myself. I joke about being awesome but it's always purely in jest and everyone who knows me knows that. However, today I was completely conceited when confronted with someone I hadn't seen in a long time and that I wanted to impress. My old English teacher.

When I was at school I had an English teacher who absolutely ADORED me. I'm serious. Total teacher's pet territory. I could get away with being late, not doing my homework and pretty much anything else I wanted. The funny thing about it was that this teacher hated pretty much everyone else and was extremely strict on everyone except me.

Anyway, I was walking past my old school today and she was standing outside. I stopped to say hi and she asked me what I was up to. Wanting to impress her, I said "Oh, I'm a writer." Stupid thing to say! Totally stupid. Of course she then asked me what I'd written and where she could get a copy. Quickly backtracking I replied "Ah, at this point I'm a largely unpublished writer. I guess I should have said I'm an aspiring writer" I followed this up with an extremely nervous laugh.

I then decided to follow with my original follow-up of "and i'm doing a post-graduate diploma in publishing this year." She seemed impressed at that. Wanting to continue to impress her and wipe the embarrassment of not being published when I had claimed to be a writer I went on to say "I did a couple of degrees a few years ago and since then I've been working full-time and writing in my spare time until I decided what to do next". She, of course, then asks me what my degrees were in. "Oh, a BA in psyc and film and a BCA in management." I reply. (Which reminds me, I either need to change my accent or start saying 'a BA in film and psyc' rather than 'psyc and film' because I'm sure people think I'm saying psyc in film.)

Thankfully I managed to stop rambling about how wonderful I was at that point and made a little bit of idle chit-chat before I went on my way. She seemed impressed enough but I'm sure she was actually thinking I'd turned into a conceited twit. Ah well.

So much to do, so little time

Monday, February 11, 2008
Okay, unfortunately I don't have a lot of time.

Today I am involved with a quiz night at my old work. I get to be a judge (or, more accurately, a marker). I'm excited actually.

I am also going to watch 30 Days of Night and Rogue Assassin. So, as you can see, very busy. :)

There was an awesome thunder storm last night. I hate being woken up by storms when I have to get up early the next day, but when I can just go right back to sleep they are very fun. I felt sorry for poor little Felix though, he was hidden somewhere under the house and probably completely terrified.

Stephen Fleming and random other things

Sunday, February 10, 2008
As most of you know, I have a million crushes. Number one on my list, although I don't mention him a lot, is, and always will be, Stephen Fleming. Because I know this, and because I know most people who know me know this, I feel biased when I say anything good about him. That sucks actually, since there are so many good things about him that are true and not just my bias coming through.

Why am I rambling on about this? Well, because I discovered a new good thing about him that I just felt like I should share.

I was watching the highlights of yesterday's cricket match (which we won, by the way, yay!) and discovered that Stephen Fleming has become a commentator. This is not a surprise, I had expected him to, but it was still exciting. Even more exciting is that he is a fucking fantastic commentator. Seriously. He is! It is absolutely NOT my bias coming through.

It was only a highlights package so I didn't hear much of what he had to say, but what I did hear was awesome. It's obvious why he was such a great captain when you listen to his comments, he just understands every aspect of the game completely and is really great at explaining his thoughts. Often I'll just turn the commentators off and ignore them because what they are saying is so obvious and boring. Not Flem though, what he was saying was interesting and was also making me think about things I otherwise wouldn't have. He made my cricket viewing experience better. Brilliant.

In other news, someone was killed at Rainbows End today. That's really sad.

In other, other news, I did lots of cleaning today. Finally got some of my boxes unpacked - all my kitchen stuff is now in the kitchen and all this flat's previous kitchen stuff is boxed up because, well, mine was better.

In the best news of the day, it looks like the writers strike is all but over. The latest information I read is that Hollywood will be back to work by Wednesday. Fingers crossed that doesn't change!

Work, cricket, pies

Saturday, February 09, 2008
Work, watch cricket, make pies. These are the things I have to do today, it's going to be a busy day.

I have been sleeping really badly recently. I'm hoping it is because I'm not sleeping in my own bed, in which case it'll be fixed in a week when I do start sleeping in my own bed. I don't think that is the problem though, it's been almost 2 months since I slept in my own bed so you would think I'd be used to it by now.

Okay I'm off to get ready. I just thought I'd better blog now in case I run out of time later. (Which I expect I will) Fingers crossed it doesn't rain!

Sleepy

Friday, February 08, 2008
I'm so sleepy today. It sucks. I was supposed to be going out but I decided against it since tomorrow is going to be such a long day and I'm so bloody exhausted right now.

I'm not looking forward to the first part of tomorrow at all, that's the part where I have to go to work. I am looking forward to the second part though, the part where I'm going over to a friends house to hang out for the evening. We are going to drink and make pies. Should be a lot of fun. I'm even catching the train over there rather than taking my car, that way I actually can drink for once. Woo!

It looks like the writers strike might finally be over. There's a deal on the table and it's being put to the guild members tomorrow for a vote. Fingers crossed the deal is good enough to get a majority vote! The thought that we might have brand new episodes of The Office (the show I'm missing the most) in a few weeks fills me with happiness. Oh how I have missed The Office!

More questions

Thursday, February 07, 2008
Today I have another list of questions. If anyone has an actual answer to any of these then feel free to comment! :-)

1. Why do I continue to watch cricket even though it hurts me. (We're doing terribly in the game I'm watching right now.)
2. Why do some people (generally girls) think that other people want to listen to them singing at the back of the bus?
3. Why does there never seem to be enough time in the day, even now when I have no job?
4. Why do I additively buy books and dvds, even though I know I have no money. (I've actually been far better than I thought I'd be but I still have the occasional lapse.)
5. Why do I love mountain dew so much?
6. Why would you want to give someone a blow-job in a movie theatre, surrounded by people?
7. Why would you want to have sex in a movie theatre full of kids?
8. Why would you pay to see a movie and then have sex during it instead when you could have done that at home?
9. Why does my cat always want to sit on my lap when I'm using my laptop?
10. Why do New Zealand batsman always get out to stupid shots? (Here's looking at you right now Ross Taylor)
11. Why do I cuddle my cat even though I know I'm allergic to him?
12. Why do New Zealand cricket continue to break my heart?
13. Why do the England cricket players have such funny names but then play so well against us that I can't really laugh at them?
14. Why do I obsessively check my email?
15. Why can't I think of something really funny to round this list off?

John Key

Wednesday, February 06, 2008
John Key is, in all likelihood, the future Prime Minister of New Zealand. This statement fills me with fear, and no small amount of horror. I, being staunchly left-wing, will never be happy with a National government and a John Key led National government doesn't change my opinion.

The biggest problem, for Labour anyway, with John Key is that he seems like a likeable enough guy and people don't see him for the evil that he really is. Where Don Brash never really came across as a potential leader for our country, John Key comes across as a very good leader. But he won't be!

He's clever, I'll give him that. He's claimed that he won't change Labour's policy on student loans. He disagrees with it but says that he doesn't want students to be always worrying that a change in government will change the student loan policies. In fact, he's even claiming that he'll go one better than Labour and the government, lead by National, will add 10% to any voluntary repayments over $500 that students make. Wow, that sounds awesome! I don't believe it though. They might keep the student loan policy the same for a while, but it will get changed eventually. If they stay in for more than 1 term then I guarantee interest will be back. As for the 10%, it'll never happen. It's just election year bullshit.

Here's hoping he does something to royally screw up his chances this year! Otherwise, I fear, his party is going to get the majority of votes.

Here is a very amusing video, making fun of John Key, of Coldplay's song Clocks with the words changed. (For those of you who don't know, John Key used this music as the background of a 'getting to know John Key' dvd. He had to pull the dvd when Coldplay put up a fuss since he hadn't received permission to use it. He then claimed ignorance over the fact that it was Coldplay's music.)

And here is a video where John Key admits that he is a heartless bastard who didn't cry when he got married, or even when his kids were born and who is happy to put a whole lot of people out of work... Why he thinks that's a good thing I don't know.

However, my favourite moment of the video is at 2:07 when he forgets that he is the leader of National not Labour. C'mon if he can't even remember which party he leads then how can he run our country??

What a tosser.

Waitangi Day

Today is Waitangi day. Normally for me this would either mean a paid day off or a day of work where I get paid a whole lot extra. Now it just means I came back from the beach early because Dad wanted to spend the day in Wellington.

Unfortunately, I have to stay down in Wellington for the rest of the week because I have another job interview tomorrow and start work on Friday. Boring. I would much rather be at the beach, a place I am very quickly falling head over heels in love with.

Cricket

Tuesday, February 05, 2008
Sorry Kat, I know you hate posts about cricket but I can't resist. (Seriously, you may as well not bother reading - this post will solely be about cricket)

I'm watching the Twenty20 match against England right now (on tv, obviously). It's the first game I've actually sat down and watched since Stephen Fleming was dropped after the world cup.

I'm watching partly because I'm home (and can't actually resist cricket even though I want to) and partly because it's Jesse Ryder's début. God I've missed cricket while I've been actively staying away from it!

Jesse Ryder has done well so far. He bowled 1 over, only went for 2 runs and got a wicket. This is in Twenty20 remember! He's opening the batting right now, it's only just begun so I don't have a lot to say on his batting so far. He's obviously very nervous but he's got McCullum with him at the other end so that's got to make him feel a bit better, he's got time to settle cos McCullum will do the work.

WOAH!! Beautiful shot from Ryder right there! A beautiful shot through the covers for 4. I take back everything I said about him being nervous! How odd, McCullum is connected to a microphone and they just asked him what he thought of the shot from his end. Surely having a microphone connected to him would stuff up his concentration? I had heard about this feature of Twenty20 but haven't watched enough of it to actually see it in action before. I don't like it.

Heh the current bowler's name is Sidebottom. That makes me laugh. See! See! McCullum got out on a totally soft shot, he basically just lobbed it into the air. I bet it was the microphone distracting him!

Ross Taylor's in now. I adore this guy. Not like I adore Stephen Fleming, I adore him as a cricketer. Watching Taylor and Ryder bat together has been a dream of mine for a long time. They actually grew up together in the Wairarapa and played childhood cricket together as well so they run together very well.

FUCK!! Taylor's out LBW. I think I better stop commentating this game on my blog. Jamie How's in now.... I'm nervous about this Sidebottom guy, he's a bloody good bowler! Left arm and pretty quick. I wish I hadn't laughed at his name! Just about an LBW to How then, drifting slightly down leg though and the umpire made a good decision giving it not out.

James Anderson's in bowling now. I really like him as a bowler, except when he's playing against New Zealand of course! Unfortunately for England he's not as consistent as they wish he would be. But hell, when he gets it right he's one of the best out there.

Okay, I'm really going to stop now. :)

It's all good

It's going to be a good year, I just know it is.

I'll tell you all something, if you ever get the opportunity to take a couple of months of work to just relax and do something you've been wanting to do for a long time then DO IT! Don't even hesitate. In fact, spend the rest of this year saving your money so you can do just that at the end of the year. It is, without doubt, the best thing I have ever done for myself.

I got a job today, a nice easy, casual job. It's actually a job I've done before so I know exactly what to expect. I'm working at the stadium on event days, selling and taking tickets. Far from exciting but it pays okay and, more importantly, is casual so I can choose to work or not work each event. Basically, it's the perfect job for someone on a student allowance who wants to actually focus on their study this time around, unlike at university when they worked far more than they studied.

Also, my healthy eating campaign is working well. Basically, I'm uber healthy during the week, down to my choice of drink which is strictly water and nothing else. On the weekend I'm then free to do as I please, I can drink my beloved Mountain Dew and eat takeaways if I want them. The amazing thing is that I haven't been that tempted by unhealthy foods on the weekend. Mountain Dew is still a craving I have every day but it's easy to get through the week knowing I can have it on the weekend. I've been very good so far and haven't gone crazy and had a million bottles of mountain dew on the weekend though. I've managed to stick to just 1 bottle for the last few weekends so I haven't been undoing all the good work from the week.

The most amazing part of all this is my kidneys. I have been pain free since Christmas, this is after living with daily kidney pain for the last couple of years. I think it's partly the huge amount of water I'm ingesting and partly the absolute lack of stress. All in all, my kidneys are happy and that makes me EXTREMELY happy.

It's not all roses of course, there are still people in my life that I wish weren't but, for one reason or another, have to be and there are still people not in my life that I wish were. But, life is never perfect, if it was it would be boring.

It's definitely going to be a good year. I can feel it in my bones.

Off to the beach

I'm off to dad's house again in an hour or so. I'm getting used to the travelling but it's still annoying, I don't know how dad has done it every weekend for so long. I certainly admire him for that!

It's been a good weekend. I've been given heaps of birthday presents, seen a couple of movies and caught up with people. Can't complain about any of that!

Not about John Key

Saturday, February 02, 2008
Today I was going to write a really interesting and insightful post about John Key. Each day I get a little more worried about Labour's chances of winning the next election. I think the chances are slim and that, barring a politically-suicidal mistake by John Key, he will be our Prime Minister next year. Basically, that sucks.

So anyway, I was going to do my part and tell you all exactly why John Key is the spawn of Satan and should not be elected. Instead, I am tired so I am going to go to sleep. Perhaps you'll get lucky and I'll write a post about him another day soon. (And it will be an original post since I have no notes on what I'm going to write about yet. Okay Kat? :P )

And, no, I don't actually think anything I write will make the slightest bit of difference but what use is this blog if I don't use it to tell everyone what I think about everything? :P

The Wellington Sevens

Friday, February 01, 2008
My brother and sister-in-law came down from Hamilton to watch the Sevens this weekend. Last year my sister-in-law won best dressed female so this year they were even more excited about dressing up. They hoped they'd both win and thus win enough money for an extended honeymoon next year.

My brother went as Captain Jack Sparrow and he certainly looked the part. I was very grateful when I saw him dressed up that, while I love Johnny Depp, I have never found him attractive as Captain Jack Sparrow. If I had then it would have been a little disturbing for me seeing him looking like a replica of said pirate. My sister-in-law was just dressed as a generic pirate but she looked fantastic. She made both her costume and my brother's costume herself and I am supremely jealous of that talent. I shall post pics of them tomorrow when I get some.

Okay, I'm off to watch Sweeney Todd again so I better get going. (I saw Juno during the day today - it was fantastic)
