The World Of Jadeey: Adam Parore vs Jesse Ryder

Adam Parore vs Jesse Ryder

Last week Adam Parore wrote in the New Zealand Herald that Jesse Ryder was too fat to play cricket at a professional level. Apparently his lack of fitness sends a bad message to other players, the message that fitness standards are only applicable to some players.

Parore also stated, bizarrely, that if he still played international cricket he wouldn't want to be in the same dressing room as Jesse Ryder. Do fat people disgust him so much that he can't even be in the same room as them? Did he used to get his kicks out of checking out the other guys' well-toned bodies and the thought of accidentally checking out a flabby body is disturbing to him? (If that's the case I feel sorry for Sally Ridge since he is, quite clearly, in the closet.)

Actually, I might be onto something there. Later in the article he suggested that Tim Southee was a brilliant selection and totally looked the part of a cricketer. In Parore's own words "he's 19, tall, swings the ball at a good clip and I'm told is a level headed young man with a big future." Hmmm he's 19 and tall aye? I'm surprised Parore didn't add 'handsome' to the list of reasons he feels it's a good selection. So you'd be more than happy to be in the dressing room with Southee would you Adam?

Anyway, I'd agree that Jesse Ryder is bigger than your average cricketer, but I haven't seen him have the slightest bit of trouble keeping up with any of the other guys. His running between the wickets is quick (admittedly, in last nights caning they didn't need to do much running since there were so many boundaries, but that works too) and his fielding is good. He certainly doesn't seem to be a liability out there. Perhaps Parore hadn't actually seen him play when he made those comments?

Parore really does seem to be obsessed with the dressing room. He finishes his comments with this: "Ryder and Southee appear polar opposites but they will share the dressing room at Eden Park on Tuesday night. Strange times indeed." You're right Parore, strange times, but it's actually your comments that are strange.
