The World Of Jadeey: September 2008

That's what she said!

Tuesday, September 30, 2008
For today I have hunted down some funny The Office videos for you guys.

First up we have my favourite character - Andy. See, I'm in love with Jim but I find Andy absolutely hilarious. My favourite moments are when he sings. This video combines all of his songs into one. Very cool. (I particularly love him singing Take a chance on me. Melts my heart every time.

Here is someones favourite The Office moments. It's labelled as the best Office moments, I think that's a bit of an exaggeration. They are good ones, but I wouldn't necessarily say they are the best. Especially considering it is missing two of my favourite moments (in videos below.) Anyway, these moments are all still very funny.

Everyone who loves The Office also loves the that's what she said joke. Here are a whole lotta that's what she said jokes all in one awesome video.

Okay, one of my favourite episodes is called Product Recall. The video of the best bits is below. I fully recommend the beginning and end of the video as it is Jim dressed up as Dwight and then Dwight dressed up as Jim. The middle is awesome too - but it's the beginning and end that are the funniest.

This next video has my favourite cold opens of all the cold opens at the beginning.

Apparently this take was the only time the exercise ball actually burst. Every other time it just deflated slowly, but on this take John Krasinski accidentally hit the seam and it popped. So the end is actually everyone out of character reacting to Rainn Wilson hitting the floor. I think that just makes it funnier.

And, just cos I can, here is John Krasinski with a very important public service announcement about jellybeans.

Makes me laugh EVERY time. And he is also completely correct. Black jellybeans are gross.

I want Philly Jim

Monday, September 29, 2008
I have crushes on 2 actors from The Office. One is John Krasinski. I love him and plan to marry him someday. (And I have a foolproof plan, which I will detail at the end of this blog.) The other is Jenna Fischer. You know how on Rove he loves to ask his guests who they'd turn gay for? My answer is, without question, Jenna Fischer.

Here is a cute video of Jenna Fischer. (Very old.)

Here's John Krasinski on Craig Ferguson a couple of days ago.

And here is a fairly old video with both of them.

Oh boy. I like them.

Okay, for those of you who want to know my foolproof plan to meet John Krasinski (cos, let's face it, all I gotta do is meet him. Him then falling in love with and wanting to marry me is assured after that.) here it is. I am going to walk all around LA until I find him. Then I am going to quickly get a few paces in front of him and have a friend stage a mugging. I will collapse in a heap, pretending to have fainted. John Krasinski will come to my aid. And the rest will be, as they say, history. Yep. Foolproof.

In the interests of revealing secrets....

Sunday, September 28, 2008
(Yes, it's an Office quote - even if it is a very obscure one.)

As many of you know, as well as loving The Office, I also love Postsecret and LJ Secret. These two loves have overlapped a few times. Below are some Office-related secrets I've found. (No I didn't make any of them.)

See, I'm not the only person obsessed with The Office. :) And, yes, it's getting hard to continue these Office related blogs. I'm definitely running out of things to say about it. As much as I want to celebrate the return of my favourite show with a week of The Office blogs, I just don't think it's going to happen. Ah well.

What is a Jim?

Saturday, September 27, 2008
Okay, I'm assuming any of my friends who actually want to watch the premiere of season 5 of The Office will have watched it by now. If you haven't then you really shouldn't read this blog.

Holly's favourite things about the season premiere:

1. Jim tried to get Dwight to beer him five
2. Holly (the character, not me) found out that Kevin isn't mentally challenged. In a very embarrassing way
3. That there was a goof and Ingrid picked it up immediately
4. Michael's goatee
5. Dwight's goatee
6. Jim is just ridiculously good looking
7. Jim proposed to Pam!
8. Pam went to the wrong class, and then didn't leave
9. Ryan is back, as the receptionist.
10. Jim wore a wet shirt after being caught in the rain. (Ha, caught proposing!)

My most favourite thing - the way John Krasinski says my name. I LOVE that there is now a character with my name on the show.

Holly is kind of a major dork

Friday, September 26, 2008
Yes, yes the title of this blog is actually an official quote from The Office. And, as this blog can attest, it is also sadly accurate in reference to me.

I watched the new episode today. And it was awesome. But I can't talk about it because I don't want to ruin it for anyone who hasn't watched it yet. So, instead, I'm going to post a video. This is one of my favourite John Krasinski videos. I did actually post this a long time ago, but it's worth posting again.

Okay, you can all see why I adore this guy right?

Dwight, you ignorant slut!

Thursday, September 25, 2008
In celebration of the fact that my absolute favourite show in the world, The Office, is back tomorrow - I am going to do a series of Office related blogs for the next few days.

For anyone that is planning to watch the new season, but has forgotten what happened last season, here is a recap of season 4. (And for those of you who don't watch The Office... you're idiots - go and rent the dvds RIGHT NOW)

1. Jim and Pam started dating. Finally.
2. Pam ordered a celebrity sex tape. It gave her computer a virus.
3. Michael hit Meredith with his car.
4. Ryan grew a beard.
5. Dwight killed Angela's cat.
6. Michael drove into a lake.
7. The dvd screensaver box hit the corner of the screen.
8. Dwight thought the Dunder Mifflin Infinity website had come alive.
9. Jim and Pam visited Dwight's beet farm.
10. Michael declared bankruptcy.
11. Andy could only remember half of the kit kat jingle.
12. Dwight and Michael threatened to burn Utica to the ground.
13. Jim tried to combine all the birthday parties.
14. Michael expected to get screwed by his company, but did not expect to get screwed by his girlfriend.
15. Jim played ping pong.
16. Jim, Pam, Andy, Angela, Dwight and Dwight's old babysitter went to dinner at Jan and Michael's.
17. Jan made candles.
18. Michael fell in love with a dead chair model.
19. Jim warned Pam that a proposal is coming and it's going to kick her ass.
20. Jim and the gang got locked in at work.
21. Michael put his face in wet cement.
22. Jim re-routed all of Dwight's calls to his own phone.
23. Holly started at the office.
24. Michael fell in love with Holly.
25. Thanks to the above 2 points I got to hear John Krasinski (who I totally heart) say "love Holly". (Sure, it was the end of a sentence. But it still counts.)

Good stuff. Now you are all ready for season 5.

Another list!

Wednesday, September 24, 2008
Things that are annoying Holly today:

  1. 1. My gym shoes are munted and hurt my feet.
  2. 2. My iPod headphones are munted and I can't hear out of the left one.
  3. 3. My credit card is maxed out and I can't afford to pay it off right now.
  4. 4. My overdraft is pretty much maxed out and I can't afford to pay it right now.
  5. 5. The above 2 points means I can't afford new gym shoes.
  6. 6. Or new iPod headphones.
  7. 7. It's Wednesday night. I swear it is ALWAYS Wednesday night.
  8. 8. I have a big research assignment due soon and I'm very behind.
  9. 9. My bus is possibly not running tomorrow, but I'm not entirely sure.
  10. 10. We thought our book was arriving looking like a book today and it did not. It just looked like a pile of paper. We have to wait another 6 weeks to see it looking like a book. Poo.

Only in New Zealand

Tuesday, September 23, 2008
Only in New Zealand....

1. would we choose a foreign minister who hates foreigners
2. would we allow politicians who didn't get voted into their electorate to still get into parliament as list MPs
3. would we think it is acceptable to have a town slogan "Stokes Valley - better than you'd expect"
4. would a street sign saying "Old Bollock Rd" rather than "Old Bullock Rd" make the news not once, but twice
5. would whale vomit washing up on shore not only make the news, but also be mistaken for cheese
6. would the NZ Idol winners be chosen based on looks rather than talent
7. would Shortland Street actually attract viewers
8. would a life prison sentence not actually mean life
9. would Whale Rider be considered a good movie
10. would it be considered cool to refer to Wellington as Wellywood

(quick disclaimer - for those of you who like to take whatever I say literally, I do know these things can happen in other countries.)

If anyone else has any then feel free to comment them. Thanks to Ingrid for helping with this list. :)

Yet another lame blog

Monday, September 22, 2008
Something weird - in the last 7 days I have seen 2 people with walkmen. Not cd players, but true honest to goodness tape players. It's insane. I felt like shouting at them 'that's 2 generations ago! update your equipment!'. But I did not. Because I am polite.

Other than that, not a lot happening in Holly-land. (Holly-wood :P )

Ingrid's birthday

Today was Ingrid's birthday. I bought her Tom Hanks' very old tv show on dvd. He dresses up as a woman, it's a little bit scary.

A big group of us went to dinner at Fujiyama Tepenyaki to celebrate both Ingrid's and Kat's birthdays. It was really cool. I am soooo full right now.

Celebrations

Friday, September 19, 2008
Well, our book went to print on Tuesday so we're off to celebrate tonight. Excellent.

This time next week i'm going to be SO damn excited I might not be able to contain myself. Why, you ask? Because The Office is coming back! I think I will die of excitement.

I'm very happy this weekend too though cos it's Ingrid's birthday tomorrow AND Kat is coming down. What a good couple of weekends. :)

I got nothing

Thursday, September 18, 2008
I really have nothing at all to blog about today.

I went to class, went to work and then came home. Not particularly thrilling.

Kat's coming down from Auckland tomorrow. YAY! Saturday night is her and Ingrid's birthday dinner. Awesome.

Hilarious Sarah Palin video

Wednesday, September 17, 2008
A couple of days ago Kat directed me to a BRILLIANT youtube video that I will now share with you all. It's Tina Fey as Sarah Palin for SNL and it's possibly the funniest thing I've ever seen in my life.

Thanks Kat :)

Memories

Tuesday, September 16, 2008
I find it fascinating whenever a memory of something suddenly comes to be out of nowhere. The brain is truly amazing.

I went for a walk this evening because it was nice weather and I felt like it. As I turned to wander down a street I didn't remember walking down before I was suddenly hit with a memory of a time I was in that street. I must have only been about 14, I was staying with a friend and she had netball in the morning so I went along and watched. Her mum parked in that street while we watched the game. It is quite possible I have never been in that street apart from that one time. It just amazes me that I would suddenly remember something so completely insignificant.

In other, extremely exciting news - my book went to print today!!! WOO!!!!!! This time next week I should be able to hold the proof copy in my hands. (For one final check.) I, along with the rest of my group, thought this day would never come. It's awesome.

Happy Birthday Kat!

Monday, September 15, 2008
Today is Kat's birthday. And she's coming to visit on the weekend!! YAY!

Being an Office obsessed nut, and also incapable of singing myself (well incapable of singing in tune), I decided to let the cast of The Office sing her happy birthday for me. So I found a clip of them singing happy birthday and I found a clip of Michael saying Kat (actually he was saying meerkat) and I edited them together.

Here is the result (well, with a picture added so it's a real video and could actually be uploaded to youtube). I know it's silly, but Kat appreciated it and that is what counts. :D

American's are weird

Sunday, September 14, 2008
Yep, that's right. Here is a list of weird things about Americans.

1. They don't seem to believe in the letter U (c'mon color? behavior? labor? Clearly these words are correctly spelt colour, behaviour and labour.)
2. They keep replacing the letter S with the letter Z (realize, socialize etc should really be realise and socialise.)
3. They can't say some words, like aluminium and Antarctica. (They also can't spell aluminium since i'm pretty sure they spell it as stupidly as they say it - aluminum.)
4. They drive on the wrong side of the road.
5. They have the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car.
6. They call university 'college', when clearly college is actually high school.
7. They don't understand metrics.
8. They don't have free medical care.
9. They are possibly going to vote in a 72 year old as President of their country.
10. They voted in Bush. Not once, but twice.
11. They think cricket is an insect, when clearly it is actually the best sport in the world.
12. They don't play rugby. Instead they play a sport that requires them to wear a ridiculous amount of padding. C'mon call yourselves men?
13. They think a 'billion' is a thousand million. And people wonder why they have so many billionaires.
14. They call a camp bed a 'cot'. Yet a cot is what a baby sleeps in. This confused me for so many years of reading. I couldn't understand why whenever someone went to stay at a friend's house they were forced to sleep in a bed meant for babies.
15. They call a 'mcmuffin' from Mcdonalds, a 'biscuit'. It's NOT a biscuit people!
16. They call 'jelly' 'jello' and 'jam' 'jelly'. Just plain weird.
17. They don't think that Randy is the most hilarious first name EVER.
18. They pronounce the letter Z zee instead of zed.
19. They sue anyone and everyone.
20. They all want to be on tv even if it means people are laughing AT them, not with them.

This one time, at the gym...

Saturday, September 13, 2008
I just realised that i'm not going to have another chance to blog today, so better do it now. I just finished up a very good session at the gym. Now i'm off to work and then meeting a friend after.

Something very funny happened at the gym today. I was up in the womens gym using the bike. From the bikes you can see down into the big weights area. I really enjoy watching people down there lifting weights that are often probably heavier than me. Anyway, this one guy - extraordinarily muscled guy - bent down and as he did his shorts ripped. The guy was awesome about it, there were lots of people around but he didn't look the slightest bit embarrassed. Instead he grabbed the front of his shorts and pulled so they ripped right off then took a bow. (It's ok - he had underwear on) It was hilarious. There were heaps of people around and lots of laughing. He took a bit of a risk really... What if his underwear had been ripped too? Ha then he might have been embarrassed.

Right. Time to go and stand at the railway station for many hours. Fingers crossed it doesn't rain!

Dad's birthday

Friday, September 12, 2008
Today is dad's birthday. Like the dutiful and loving daughter I am, I toddled up to the parents house for dinner. Unfortunately for dad, even though it was his birthday he was the one who cooked (as he always does). Me and mum joked that we might make a chocolate cake. Unsurprisingly it didn't happen.

Dinner was delicious, as usual. It was a really great evening. My poor cat Stephen was so happy to see me. It makes it hard to then leave him again, but he'd never cope with life in the city - he's too used to the country.

Plans for the rest of the weekend - gym, work and study. Thrilling.

RIP Kelly the dolphin

Thursday, September 11, 2008
The final dolphin from Napier's Marineland died today. :(

When I was about 12 me and Melissa went swimming with the dolphins at Marineworld. Back then there were 2 dolphins. Swimming with the dolphins is one of the coolest things I've ever done. The dolphins didn't really let us touch them, but it was still very cool.

I'm very happy that people aren't allowed to just catch wild dolphins and train them. But it does make me sad that it means Marineland might be closing.

Here is a video of the dolphins (and other animals) at Marineland, taken in 1993.

My future husbands

Wednesday, September 10, 2008
It's time for a list.

Guys Holly is going to marry:

For those of you who couldn't recognise my boys by their pictures:
1. Hugh Laurie
2. Colin Firth
3. Colin Hanks
4. Stephen Fleming
5. John Krasinski

Yes, that is a very specific order. Hugh Laurie and Colin Firth are a bit older. So I marry them first. (You've got to marry the older ones first.) Then Colin Hanks goes next because it seems to make sense to replace one Colin with another. That way I don't have to remember a new name.

Deciding the order of Stephen Fleming and John Krasinski just about killed me. I've loved Stephen Fleming forever, but he's currently married. So, I want to just marry him for a little while - then he can go back to his wife and kids. I'm not a homewrecker.

That leaves me happily ever after with John Krasinski. Can't complain about that. He's freaking sexy.

Telethon

Tuesday, September 09, 2008
There's going to be a telethon next year! How cool is that?? There hasn't been a telethon in New Zealand in 15 years. I'm sure it's something that is only really cool when you're a kid. But i'm excited anyway. I hope it doesn't disappoint me.

Our book is so close to being done now! We finished up the index and final changes today. We'll hopefully be pre-flighting it on Thursday and sending it to the printer Friday. So cool.

Movie night

Monday, September 08, 2008
We are having a dvd night tonight. We just finished watching August Rush and now we're about to start Jumanji.

As hard as it may be to believe, I haven't seen Jumanji before. I've seen half of it, but had to stop half-way through for some reason that I can't remember. I'm hoping to finally see the end tonight!

Nervous habits

Saturday, September 06, 2008
When I was studying psyc back at uni I really loved learning about kinesics. For those of you who don't know what kinesics is, it's the study of body language.

Nervous habits are always very interesting. I like to watch people and pick up their nervous habits, particularly guest speakers in class. I know I have my own nervous habits - and it always annoys me when I find myself doing one of them.

My most common is to turn my watch around my wrist. It's quite loose so can be turned all the way around. When i'm nervous I find myself spinning it. A newer nervous habit of is to pull my JD bracelet off and twirl it around my finger. (If you don't know what my JD braclet is you need to watch the musical episodes of Scrubs. Me and Ingrid have Turk and JD bracelets, just like in the song.) These are such embarrassing nervous habits because they are so damn obvious. If you're going to have a nervous habit it's better if it's something other people can't pick up as a nervous habit. But at least it's not a twitch.

Awesome! A friend just dropped off 2 xbox games he'd borrowed and has lent me 7 games. I'm going to be playing for a while! :D

Dinner at mum's

Friday, September 05, 2008
I'm off to dinner at my mum's house tonight. Yay! She's going to Hamilton in the morning and i'm driving her to the airport. In return I get a yummy home cooked meal. Good deal.

Today was my final day at work placement. I'm kind of sad it's over actually. I really enjoyed it in a weird way. It'll be good to get back to class again though. The assignments have been weighing heavily on my mind the last couple of weeks but I've had no real time to do them.

Right-o better get going. :)

Nothing in particular

Thursday, September 04, 2008
I have decided that the first thing I am going to buy myself when I finish my course and get a job is an Xbox 360. I'm not sure I can live the rest of my life never playing Fable 2... And it is only coming out on the 360.

I'm beginning to get really excited about the end of my course. I'm really enjoying it, but MAN will it be good to have money again. I'm very tired of not buying anything non-essential. I'll probably splurge for the first few weeks before I start saving again. It's going to be AWESOME! Of course, this all relies on me finding a job relatively quickly. But I'm staying positive that I will.

Have you all been to Edulection and voted in the poll? If you aren't planning to vote Labour don't bother - I don't want you to vote. As long as you are voting Labour then have at it! :D

The magic of childhood

Tuesday, September 02, 2008
I miss being a kid sometimes. I remember when everything was magical. Then you get older and reality hits. Suddenly almost nothing is magical anymore.

Things like going to the movies used to be the most wonderful, amazing experience in the world. These days I still completely adore going to the movies, but it doesn't contain the magic that it used to. I can get lost in movies and they are great for escapism.... but they're not magic anymore.

Reading used to be magic... Now it's not. I would get so lost in the book I was reading that I'd barely notice the real world. Doesn't happen anymore. Like movies, I still love them, but it's not magical.

One thing that is still magical though - live sports. I went to see David Beckham last year and it was pure magic. Then, of course, there is cricket. I have such fond memories of attending cricket games with my friends or with my dad. And it's just as good these days. I don't get many opportunities to attend, but when I do it's exactly as it was when I was a kid. I spend the whole time enthralled with everything that is happening and barely able to believe I am there. I can't even explain it... except to liken it to the magic of childhood.

One other thing that is magic... the theatre. (Especially Blood Brothers!)

Quiz night

Monday, September 01, 2008
Well the quiz night was very fun. My team came 3rd equal again. But considering we were at about 5th or 6th until the 2nd to last round, we were very happy.

Ingrid's team were fantastic - they came first. First by a long way. (Next time we're gonna beat 'em though.)

If anyone lives in Wellington and wants to go to a brilliant movie quiz night - the Skycity one is the first Monday of every month and I highly recommend it.
