What Holly thinks about at work

Friday, May 15, 2009
It's been a while since I did a list so I thought I might as well do one today.

Things Holly thinks about when she's not receiving calls at work:

- Whether anyone has written on her Facebook wall
- Whether anyone has put an interesting status update on Facebook
- What her next Facebook status update should be
- Whether anyone interesting is on Facebook chat to talk to
- What Kat will say in her next email
- What she should write in her next email to Kat
- What Corrina will say in her next email
- What she should write in her next email to Corrina
- What she should have for lunch (or if it's after lunch then what she should have for dinner)
- Whether she's going to have the will-power to go to the gym
- The time Stephen Fleming got 274 not out
- The time she saw Stephen Fleming in the Nike shop
- The time she saw Stephen Fleming walking down the street with his wife
- The numerous times she saw Stephen Fleming at the Basin

I think that's a pretty comprehensive list. So what have we learned today? We have learned that the main things I think about at work are Facebook, emailing Kat and Corrina, food and Stephen Fleming.

Stephen Fleming rocks my world

Tuesday, March 24, 2009
I saw Stephen Fleming today!! I love him.

I was wandering back to work and glanced into a shop that I was walking past. There he was walking out the door to that very shop. I decided to be a grown up and just kept walking, rather than falling apart or trying to get an autograph or anything. (I have plenty of Stephen Fleming autographs from my teenage years at cricket matches anyway.)

In celebration of me seeing him today, here are some photos of my favourite cricket player of all time.

Fleming at the Basin

Friday, February 06, 2009
I went to the cricket today. It was the Wgtn vs Otago 20Twenty and it was at the Basin Reserve. I haven't been to the Basin in years so it was really, really nice to be there.

I'd forgotten exactly how steep the bank actually is and the fact that you spend the entire time trying hard not to slide down. But I loved it anyway.

Unfortunately Stephen Fleming got 0.... It made me very unhappy because one of the reasons I went was to see him.

I miss Stephen Fleming. I miss the Basin Reserve. :(

Where has all the cricket gone?

Wednesday, January 28, 2009
I know there is domestic cricket on today.

I know Wellington is playing against Central Districts.

I know the Wgtn/CD game is being played at McLean park in Napier.

I know it is a 20/20 match.

I know it started at 7pm.

I know Stephen Fleming is captaining the Wgtn side.

As you can see, I know a lot. But there is one thing I don't know. One very important thing....

I don't know what the score is! I've looked all over the internet and listened to Radio Sport. It ain't there.

No wonder domestic cricket in New Zealand is dying if they make it so damn hard to find out how your domestic team is going.

No fair!

Tuesday, January 06, 2009
It's not fair!

My dad called me earlier this evening with the news that Stephen Fleming was up at Waitarere Beach on New Years. This is not fair because I was also up there, but I didn't see him!!

I'm hoping this means that maybe, just maybe, he owns a house up there. I also think there is a chance that, if he does, it is on the same street as my parents house. It's a good street so it would be a sensible choice. How cool would that be!?! Hopefully it will mean I get to bump into him on the beach at some point. Maybe even play beach cricket with him. That'd be like heaven.

Remember those old cricket ads that had the old groundsman and the young groundsman pushing a roller? The old guy used to live in the house nextdoor to my parents. I thought that was cool enough - having my favourite cricket player of all time anywhere near a place I spend a lot of time might be enough to make my brain explode.

I love me some ex-cricket captain

Saturday, November 01, 2008
I got so excited last night when I arrived at the bar I was meeting my friends at. Why? Because we were sitting near a guy who looked very much like Stephen Fleming from the side. And, luckily, because of where our seats were positioned I pretty much saw him from the side the whole time. I knew it wasn't him, but it still made me happy. From the front, not so much like Stephen.

Today has been an assignment day and tomorrow will be as well. It's not so bad though, the assignment I'm doing is actually kind of fun. We have to invent a publishing house and then produce a whole lot of documents as if we were going to print a book. Stuff like project timelines, costings etc. I'm really enjoying it. Interestingly, it's a project management assignment and I recently got it into my head that I'd like to be a project manager. I then got rejected for a project management job I wanted and decided I didn't want to do it afterall. Now, doing this assignment, I'm back to thinking maybe I would like to do it. It's confusing being Holly. :P

Ingrid told me today that she actually told me about the Medieval Store a few weeks ago and commented that she wonders how it stays in business. I have no recollection of the conversation, but I have been thinking about it for weeks so it was obviously because of the conversation with her. The funny thing is I have this memory of the first time I noticed the store. Yet, either that memory or Ingrid's one is false. I'm going with probably mine since I'm sure you are more likely to create a false memory of thoughts than one of talking to someone.

My future husbands

Wednesday, September 10, 2008
It's time for a list.

Guys Holly is going to marry:

For those of you who couldn't recognise my boys by their pictures:
1. Hugh Laurie
2. Colin Firth
3. Colin Hanks
4. Stephen Fleming
5. John Krasinski

Yes, that is a very specific order. Hugh Laurie and Colin Firth are a bit older. So I marry them first. (You've got to marry the older ones first.) Then Colin Hanks goes next because it seems to make sense to replace one Colin with another. That way I don't have to remember a new name.

Deciding the order of Stephen Fleming and John Krasinski just about killed me. I've loved Stephen Fleming forever, but he's currently married. So, I want to just marry him for a little while - then he can go back to his wife and kids. I'm not a homewrecker.

That leaves me happily ever after with John Krasinski. Can't complain about that. He's freaking sexy.

So sad

Thursday, September 13, 2007
Not that I want to go on and on about it but FUCK!

Stephen Fleming retired as a one day player yesterday. I am sad. So incredibly sad.

I will never love cricket as much as I've loved it while he was captain and I'll never love another player as much as I've loved Stephen Fleming. I always knew the end would come one day but it seems to have snuck up on me.

I know that no-one else cares about this as much as I do, if at all, but expect Stephen Fleming to be the topic of my blogs fairly regularly for the next little while. This is the end of almost 12 years of idolising, obsessing and hero worship we're talking about.

Fuck

Monday, September 10, 2007

It happened today. Just as I feared it would.

I have no words.

Stephen Fleming got dumped as test captain today. That really fucking sucks.

Fuck you John Bracewell
Fuck you Dion Nash
Fuck you Justin Vaughan
Fuck you Richard Hadlee
Fuck you Glenn Turner
Fuck New Zealand Cricket

You're all idiots. You're never going to find a better captain than Stephen Fleming and you're all just to damn pig-headed to see it. Daniel Vettori is NOT ready. He might be good but Stephen Fleming is better. Why fix what's not broken? Just because you're all pissed that he decided not to be ODI captain anymore? Fuck! He did that FOR New Zealand Cricket! To give the new captain 4 years in the role before the next World Cup. There was no god-damn reason to drop him from the Test captaincy!

Flem - as much as I can't bear the idea of never seeing you play again I hope you turn your back on them completely. None of them are even worthy to clean your shoes anymore let alone dump you as captain and then still expect you to walk out onto the park and play. You're the thing I've always loved most about cricket and god-damn I'm going to miss you.

Fuck.
