The World Of Jadeey

I hate it when my mood drops this low

Sunday, October 25, 2009
I had really been looking forward to this weekend. The thing with Labour weekend is that it comes after a very long period of time without a long weekend so it's usually wonderful. This one was supposed to be wonderful for me.

It hasn't been though. It's been pretty shit, to be quite honest. (Surprise, surprise that's what's got me blogging again.)

Part of it is this time of year. From mid October my mood usually starts to spiral downwards. I thought this year would be different and it was. Until Friday evening. Suddenly the downward spiral started. It's not going to be too bad this time around. I reached my low point around 3pm today I think and now, while I'm still feeling crappy, I am also feeling better than I was and that can only be a good thing.

It'll be interesting to see if tomorrow brings a better mood. (I would hope so since it'll be Monday but I won't have to be at work!)

Ugh. It was supposed to be such a great weekend. This hardly seems fair.

Stupid bus

Monday, July 06, 2009
Today was my first day of early shift. So I got up at 5.40am, got ready and headed out for the bus at 6.21am. My bus wasn't due until 6.25am so I should have been fine. At 6.35am I came to the conclusion that my bus had turned up early and I'd missed it. Fuck.

I jumped in my car, crossed my fingers that it'd start and breathed a sigh of relief when it did. I did manage to get to work on time, and found a car park that only cost me $10 for the whole day, so that made me happy. Not as happy as I would have been if I'd been able to catch the bus, but still pretty happy.

And driving in had the benefit of meaning I got home a lot earlier than I would have if I'd caught the train back home.

Today I had one very important job. I had to be at the airport to pick up Lincoln by 11.40am. Now, Lincoln is 8 years old so being late just wasn't an option. Not to mention they are very strict about who picks him up. My name was given so I needed to be there to show ID and sign for him.

Simple right? Yep it should have been.

But no. Because life is just never that easy, when I hopped in the car and went to start it nothing happened. I tried again. Still nothing except the tell-tale click of a flat battery. Cursing myself I checked and saw that I hadn't left my lights on so there was no reason my battery should have been flat.

I rushed inside and woke my flatmate Derek up. He came outside and took a look at the car, agreeing with my assessment that it was a flat battery. Derek can't drive himself so he has a taxi driver friend. He called the taxi driver who turned up within 5 minutes and took me to the airport for a damn good price.

Thankfully I arrived at the airport with plenty of time to spare. It cost me a hell of a lot more than I'd intended to spend to get there - but at least I got there. (And it was still a lot cheaper than it would have been with a regular taxi.)

My car is now going. Dad came down later in the day and charged my battery for me. I just think it's so damn typical that the time I urgently needed it was the time it decided to breakdown.

Digging in the middle of the night

Monday, April 20, 2009
Last night I was happily sleeping when I was suddenly woken up by a weird tapping sound. I lay there trying to figure out what it was (ever since we were broken into while I was sleeping I've listened very hard to odd noises.) I realised it wasn't anyone breaking into our house, but then thought maybe it was someone breaking in next door.

When the sound kept going for another couple of minutes I realised it couldn't be someone breaking in - it didn't sound right and it wouldn't go on that long. My sleep addled brain then decided that the next-door neighbour must be digging a hole. I briefly wondered why they would need to dig a hole in the middle of the night and came to the only logically conclusion. They were burying a body.

A little while after I'd decided this and was still wondering what I should do about it, Derek got up to investigate. He went outside and saw that they were doing roadworks. At 4 in the morning. Roadworks.

It only lasted until about 4.30am, but I was still violently angry. (Oddly enough, I was less angry when I thought someone was burying a body.)

Bus drivers are mean

Wednesday, March 25, 2009
At 6.20am this morning I was standing at the bus stop outside my house. (If anyone cares, the stars are still visible at 6.20am.) Along came the bus at the same time I could see someone running down the street towards me.

There is a girl who has caught the bus at the same time as me most of the mornings I have been on early shift. I've talked to her and know that she also starts work at 7am. I was pretty certain it was her running down the street, unfortunately by the time the bus got to me she was still pretty far away. I mucked around paying and then told the driver that there was someone running towards the bus and I was pretty sure it was someone who wanted to catch the bus.

He said he couldn't see her. I quickly stuck my head back out the door and she was still running towards us. I told the bus driver this, but apparently because he couldn't see her he didn't care so he drove away anyway.

I spent most of the morning (and still a bit now really) feeling guilty for not doing a better job of holding the bus and feeling incredibly sorry for her for missing the bus. I know there are no other buses or trains for at least another half hour after that one, so she must have been at least half an hour late for work. Maybe more thanks to the build-up of traffic that would have happened over the half hour she was waiting for the next bus.

Stupid bus drivers. Why can't they just be nice?

Clothes

Monday, March 23, 2009
I spent the afternoon shopping for warm clothes. I found absolutely nothing. It was very disappointing. I guess that's my fault for wanting to do winter shopping in autumn.

I guess I'm going to have to spend the next few weeks a bit cold, until more winter fashions appear in the shops.

Can't find a park!

Wednesday, March 18, 2009
I think that perhaps I am the unluckiest person in the world when it comes to carparks. I never, ever find one right outside where I want to be. My bad luck is most obvious when I go to the gym. When it's busy I can never find a park. Often I'll drive through the gym carpark, see no parks, so go and park down the street somewhere. Then after a 5 minute walk back to the gym I'll see that the carpark has emptied and there are a bunch of free parks.

It happened today. I drove through the carpark. Nothing. I actually found a street park not too far away and walked back to the gym. Sure enough, there were 6 free parks when I got back there. 6! After only about 3 minutes.

The worst luck though was a few months ago. I couldn't even find a street park so I kept circling the gym carpark. I circled it 8 times and then gave up and drove ages away. It took me about 10 minutes to walk back. When I got back.... So many free parks it made me want to cry.

I'm guessing I somehow always time my gym visits right before a class finishes. So the carpark is full when I arrive, but by the time I give up looking for a park the class is over and a whole lot of people are leaving the gym.

Either that or I really am cursed.

Misinformation

Thursday, January 29, 2009
Ah! Apparently I was mis-informed. The Twenty20 game wasn't on last night at all. It's not until 4th Feb.

I think the fact that I couldn't even find that out, and was having to go off information I'd heard from someone else in passing, just emphasises my point that it's too hard to find out any information about domestic cricket.

Interestingly, as I was listening to Radio Sport after I'd blogged last night, I heard them discussing the lack of coverage of domestic cricket. Apparently it has been decided (I didn't catch by who) that New Zealanders aren't interested in domestic cricket, international cricket is where it's at. So I don't think the lack of coverage situation is going to change.

Where has all the cricket gone?

Wednesday, January 28, 2009
I know there is domestic cricket on today.

I know Wellington is playing against Central Districts.

I know the Wgtn/CD game is being played at McLean park in Napier.

I know it is a 20/20 match.

I know it started at 7pm.

I know Stephen Fleming is captaining the Wgtn side.

As you can see, I know a lot. But there is one thing I don't know. One very important thing....

I don't know what the score is! I've looked all over the internet and listened to Radio Sport. It ain't there.

No wonder domestic cricket in New Zealand is dying if they make it so damn hard to find out how your domestic team is going.

Trains suck

Monday, January 26, 2009
I hate public transport.

I know it's better for the environment than taking my own car, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper, but I really hate it! Three out of the last five times I've caught the train to work it's been 20 minutes late. That's more than half!

And what do transmetro have to say for themselves when you complain? You should account for delays when planning your journey. Ummmmmm that's stupid! I don't want to take an earlier train just because they can't get their act together. Buses I'm a bit more understanding because they are subjected to traffic issues... Trains don't have that excuse.

All over the trains are posters proclaiming, 'Take it easy. Take the train.' Well, I take the train, but I sure as hell don't find it easy.
