Stupid website

Sunday, February 01, 2009
I've spent most of the weekend updating this stupid website and I'm veeeery sick of it. I really wish I'd never agreed to it in the first place.

I got most of the stuff so late that I've had to do the majority of the work this weekend - my birthday weekend! Also, I have a whole lot of questions about the information and no-one to ask because it was all delivered so late and the woman is only available during the week.

So I'm handing it in tomorrow not fully completed. If they want the rest then they'll have to work around me because I have plans most of this week.

So there.

Comedy

Thursday, August 28, 2008
Okay, just got home from Raybon Kan. He was awesome. And something occured to me while I was watching - being a stand-up comic for a living must be HARD!

Eww... quick aside... my cat just vomited and I wasn't fast enough to get him outside. So now there is cat vomit on my carpet that I have to clean up. gross.

And now, back to your regular scheduled blogging.

When you thinking about it, standing up and telling people jokes would be a lot harder than standing up and singing. (And I mean no disrespect to musicians. I couldn't do what they do.) When you are performing musically, the audience reaction is less obvious. Your music will generally be drowning out most audience reaction, so you just assume the are enjoying it.

With comedy, audience reaction is everything. You can hear ever laugh. Or every silence, as the case may be. It'd be awful standing up there on stage telling a joke that you thought was hilarious - and no-one laughs. God, just the thought of it gives me shivers.

Of course, I guess there's less worry about mucking up as a comedian. You can turn your screwed up punch-line into a joke all of it's own and people aren't really going to remember later that you screwed it up. When you are a musician people are definitely going to remember if you screw something up.

Everything has its challenges. (Ha! How's that for wisdom?!?)

Anyway, Raybon was great. Jerome opened for him and was good. Which is nice since the last time I saw him (was going to link to the blog where I talked about him, but I'm too lazy to find it.) he was crap. I'm glad he was good this time around.

Right. Now it is bedtime since I am still having to get up early for my slave labour.

Raybon Kan

Wednesday, August 27, 2008
I'm going to watch Raybon Kan tomorrow night at the Blue Note bar. I'm really looking forward to it. I enjoy comedy shows, and Raybon is guaranteed to provide lots of entertainment. Mum has loved him for years, so when I saw he was performing I invited her along. Dad is coming with us too. It should be a really good night. It's not often I get to hang out with my parents.

Okay. I need an early night so I don't fall asleep at my desk tomorrow! (It was a close call today. I had to pretend I needed to go to the bathroom just so I could stand up and wake myself up properly.

Overloaded

Tuesday, August 12, 2008
I am overwhelmed with assignments this week. This week I have to do:

- a marketing assignments
- a design scrapbook
- learn a Shakespearean sonnet ready to perform for the class
- help my group with the index of one of my books
- help my group edit poems for my website project
- come up with some new designs for my website project
- decide which parts of a manuscript are acceptable and which are not for one of my other books

Yuck, yuck, yuck.

I also have to go to class and go to work. It's pretty damn scary.

No one would ever treat you as well as I would

Tuesday, October 24, 2006
I would treat you with so much respect and love
I would worship your body
I would worship you

*Sigh*

It'd be great wouldn't it? But as the great philosopher Jagger once said "You can't always get what you want."

An error in the paper means I've had a lot of grumpy customers today. It's a rainy, gross day and they are taking it out on me.

Then just to make matters worse? I just suffered being yelled at by an old woman. Told that it wasn't good enough that what she wanted to see wasn't on. I tried to apologise and was told that she didn't want to hear from an unintelligent girl who couldn't even complete high school!

Ummmm what? I have a double degree AND a double major from uni lady! I'm probably more intelligent than she is. (especially when you see where this story ends up)

So anyway, I keep my cool. I don't yell or even raise my voice. Just state very firmly that I do not wish to be insulted and am going to walk away if she will not talk to me reasonably.

She keeps muttering under her breath but at least the yelling has stopped. I ask again what the problem is. (Despite all her yelling and the fact that by now I've been talking to her for a good 5 minutes, I still haven't a clue exactly what she's mad about)

Her reply "I was told when I rang up that you had Devil Wears Prada at 1pm in the Gold Lounge."

My response to this. "I'm very sorry ma'am. We don't have a Gold Lounge. You must be in the wrong place."

Her: "So you're telling me the person on the phone got it wrong?"

Me: "No. I'm telling you that you did not phone us, you phoned the other theatre."

She gave up at this point and stormed off. Whether to the right place or home to write me a lovely complaint letter I don't know.

People are idiots sometimes.

I'm used to being yelled at but it still bothers me. Even when I'm in the right it bothers me. Being yelled at is never fun.

This is one of the worst times to be single. After a day like I have the feeling today is going to turn out to be I would really like to go home to a hug. You know how sometimes you just need a hug and it makes everything better? Yeah, I could do with one.

Oh well. Back to the grind.

You'll Never Walk Alone

Tuesday, October 10, 2006
Someone just came in and told me I'd never walk alone again if I embraced Jesus. Personally it just made me think of the Gerry and the Pacemakers song that was played at my Granddad's funeral. I liked that song.

I do wonder, though, why someone would come into my place of work to preach to me. It makes sense I guess, I couldn't be rude because the guy could have been a potential customer and I can't give my company a bad image like that. But still, it annoyed me. Do they ever get anyone to suddenly convert to their religion by going around preaching?

I'm incredibly sleepy today. I haven't been sleeping well the last couple of nights. My dreams are being very weird and it's waking me up. I'm so nice and warm in my office I feel like just taking a little nap.

I've been told off for the lack of film reviews here recently. My only defence is that I have really written on here that much this year (ignoring this week).

However, in the interests of pleasing those of you who come here to read film reviews rather than listen to me ramble about my life, I promise to get some done in the next couple of weeks. (and lets face it, surely everyone here must be here for the reviews, because why on earth would you be here for my pathetic ramblings - they're really rather boring even to me!)

So - film reviews coming soon. Rejoice.
