Felix is currently sitting on me and making it extremely hard to type. He's good like that. So, blame Felix for this almost complete lack of blog.

More from Felix

Wednesday, February 25, 2009
A few weeks ago I wrote a blog from the point of view of Felix when I arrive home. Today I think it's time for a blog from Felix's point of view in the middle of the night.

First I'll set the scene. 4am. Our household is asleep. Felix is asleep curled up on either my bed or Ingrid's bed. Suddenly Felix wakes up.

'Oh it's time to get up! Hmm I'm hungry I might go and have some food.'

He leaps of the bed, stretches and strolls to his food bowl.

'Yum. These biscuits are delicious. I think i'll have more.'

Once he is finally (over) full.

'What should I do now? I think I want to go outside and play. I better wake Holly up. Holly! Holly! Holly! Holly! Holly! Holly! Oh good she's awake. C'mon let's go! I want to go outside. Here she comes. She is so slow. Doesn't she realise I want to go outside? Or maybe I want to go into the lounge. Do I? I'm not sure. I better go there and see if there is anything exciting. C'mon Holly, let's go to the lounge!'

Felix runs into the lounge with me trailing tiredly behind trying to catch him and get him outside.

'Oh, now let's go into the kitchen! And now i'll hide behind the lounge door. This is such a fun game. I can see that Holly is having fun too.'

(By the way, Holly is not having fun.) I always manage to catch him while he is behind the lounge door. He thinks it's a good hiding place - but it really isn't.

'She picked me up! How did she catch me? She is really fast! I love Holly-cuddles. What? What's happening? Why is she putting me outside? I don't want to go out here! I want to play in the lounge! What was that? I thought I saw something moving in the grass. There it is again!'
*pounce, pounce, pounce.*

By this point I am sound asleep again. We repeat this almost exactly every SINGLE night.

Inside Felix's thoughts

Friday, January 30, 2009
I love the reactions of animals when their humans come home. They are always so excited and happy to see their person.

I think my Felix's thoughts go a little like this:

'Uh oh someone is coming! I better hide. Wait it's Holly, she's nice I love her. I'll run and say hi. Oh my gosh that was a loud noise I better hide! Nope it's okay it was just the gate shutting behind Holly. I'm safe. I better act like I just wanted to smell this bush, not that I wanted to hide in it. Now I'll run over and say hi...

She's so slow opening the door! Funny Holly, maybe she's forgotten that the door is how we get inside to the food. I should tell her...

She's still going slow. Why is she looking through that bag instead of opening the door? I should remind her opening the door is what she is supposed to be doing...

Finally! C'mon Holly! Let's eat! She's going slow again! I better remind her that she wants to feed me...

Wait - that's the wrong room, Holly! The bed is in there but the food isn't. This way! This way! I'm about to die of starvation here!'

Felix the cat

Sunday, January 04, 2009
Currently my cat, Felix, is sitting on the back of my chair. Every so often he bashes his head into mine. I'm pretty sure this is his way of saying, "Hey Holly! I love you! Don't forget to pat me!"

Speaking of my cat, he is still terrified of that bird I talked about a few weeks ago. He doesn't even like going outside during the day anymore because the bird is always out there. This, combined with me being totally sick of 6am wake-up-calls by the damn singing, is making me really wish the bird would hurry up and find a new home. I don't want to wish death upon it, but I will be soon. (I already do every morning when I am woken from my peaceful slumber. When I'm fully awake I just wish it would go away, not die.)

Oops Felix just got so into banging his head into mine that he lost his balance and fell off the chair. Now he's looking sheepish and embarrassed. I love how cats get embarrassed when they do something silly.

Blackbird sings in the dead of night...

Saturday, November 29, 2008
For the past few weeks a blackbird has been calling our yard home. There would normally be no particular problem about this, but this bird is driving everyone in my flat mental. He's the happiest little bird you could possibly imagine and I hope nothing bad happens to him, but he's so damn annoying.

He sings ridiculously loudly and just doesn't stop. Ever. He wakes up early in the morning and immediately starts singing at the top of his voice. My bedroom is at the front of the house so he's pretty much right outside my window, so every morning he wakes me up. On Thursday he woke up at 4.48am. Thankfully I've discovered that covering my head with my pillow blocks him out. Unfortunately it also makes breathing challenging.

Derek and Ingrid are equally annoyed with him. He doesn't wake Derek up, since Derek's room is further away. But he's just so damn loud that it's annoying all day long.

The one suffering the most though is little Felix. Felix is a totally scaredy-cat. And he's not very good at hunting - sometimes he'll catch rubbish, bugs or already dead-animals but he really isn't any good at hunting anything fast. The poor little guy is terrified of this damn bird. Tonight I was in my room and I could hear the bird singing away. Suddenly I heard Felix frantically meowing at the door. I opened the front door and Felix raced past me and hid in the lounge. Yep, my cat is scared of a bird. That's kinda like if I was suddenly scared of a hamburger.

Here are some photos of the happiest (but also most annoying) blackbird in the world. (And the friend that joined him in the yard this evening. The friend wasn't quite as loud thank goodness)

You can see by the amount of bird poo that he spends a lot of time on our outdoor furniture.
(Our blackbird's new friend is the one off to the right. )

And here's the little guy just chilling out on the path

Comedy

Thursday, August 28, 2008
Okay, just got home from Raybon Kan. He was awesome. And something occured to me while I was watching - being a stand-up comic for a living must be HARD!

Eww... quick aside... my cat just vomited and I wasn't fast enough to get him outside. So now there is cat vomit on my carpet that I have to clean up. gross.

And now, back to your regular scheduled blogging.

When you thinking about it, standing up and telling people jokes would be a lot harder than standing up and singing. (And I mean no disrespect to musicians. I couldn't do what they do.) When you are performing musically, the audience reaction is less obvious. Your music will generally be drowning out most audience reaction, so you just assume the are enjoying it.

With comedy, audience reaction is everything. You can hear ever laugh. Or every silence, as the case may be. It'd be awful standing up there on stage telling a joke that you thought was hilarious - and no-one laughs. God, just the thought of it gives me shivers.

Of course, I guess there's less worry about mucking up as a comedian. You can turn your screwed up punch-line into a joke all of it's own and people aren't really going to remember later that you screwed it up. When you are a musician people are definitely going to remember if you screw something up.

Everything has its challenges. (Ha! How's that for wisdom?!?)

Anyway, Raybon was great. Jerome opened for him and was good. Which is nice since the last time I saw him (was going to link to the blog where I talked about him, but I'm too lazy to find it.) he was crap. I'm glad he was good this time around.

Right. Now it is bedtime since I am still having to get up early for my slave labour.

Are you ready?

Sunday, October 22, 2006
Yes

Grrr the internet isn't working so I have to write this in notepad. Stupid internet.

My cat just vomited his biscuits all over in my room. That wasn't so bad, I'm kinda used to it cos he often gobbles down far too much food then sicks it back up. The gross part was that he immediately started eating it again. Not just eating it but scooping it up with his paw and then licking it off. Kinda funny, very gross.

He got bored before he was finished cleaning it up though so my flatmate came and cleaned up the rest for me which was nice of him. I should talk about my flatmate for a minute actually cos he's really lovely.

The cricket season was coming up and I wanted Sky. I told him I wanted it and he said he'd ring and get it installed. I said to check how much it would cost first cos to get sport you have to pay extra. He said not to worry about it, he'd go halves with me. This coming from a guy who hates sports so definitely won't ever make use of it.

Yesterday I noticed that our elderly neighbours have had their fence kicked in by some drunk idiot. I suggested to my flatmate that he should offer to fix it for them. He said he didn't have a hammer. So, instead of just leaving it at that, he went off and bought a hammer. He even offered to pay for the wood for them. How nice is that? We've never even spoken to them before. He's just a really nice guy who likes to help other people out.

He also lacks the ability to judge his friends. He judges everyone else TONS. But never me and never his other friends. The other day I was telling him how much I admired that about him. I said I suspected that even if I told him I had killed someone and needed help disposing of the body he wouldn't think any less of me and would do anything he could to help me. He agreed that is exactly what he'd do.

I've told him my deepest, darkest secrets and shames and he's never used that information against me. Even when he probably should have. His one failing is that he gets very bored, very quickly, if I start talking about my feelings. So he's not the best person to talk to when I'm feeling depressed. He tries hard but I can see his eyes glazing over and him looking longingly at his computer if I start talking about stuff like that.

So, I'm very seriously thinking about up and leaving next year. The idea of using all my savings to do a big OE type trip is very appealing. I know that it's kinda dangerous to spend all my money like that. But at the same time, if I don't do it soon I'm never gonna do it. I doubt there's any chance of me doing it when I've got a mortgage etc. It's something you've kind of got to do young, then come home and settle down into the quiet drudgery of real-life. Next year is probably the last real chance I'll have to do something like that before I've actually got to get serious about life.

There are so many countries I want to see and I don't want to reach the end of my life having never done it. Of course, i'm very much relying on convincing someone else it's a good idea.

1. I'm too scared to go on my own.
2 I doubt I would enjoy it so much on my own. If I was just going to one place to work I would meet other people but for so much travelling I would definitely want a companion.

The flatmate is a doubtful option. He's useless at saving money and says he's not really interested in going the same places I am. He wants to go to lots of significant computery places which I have no interest in. So I've got to find someone else and do some serious convincing.

I have a sore thing on my neck. It really hurts! Well actually, it only hurts when I poke at it but I can't stop poking at it! I don't like it.
